We are pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition titled “The Mind Landscape” at HOSOO GALLERY.

The exhibition introduces The Mind Landscape, the collection of HOSOO’s new textiles first presented at Milan Design Week in April 2024. The collection, whose title signifies the scenery in our mind’s eye, was created through a collaboration between AMDL CIRCLE, a studio led by renowned Italian architect Michele De Lucchi, and HOSOO.

The new textile collection combines micro and macro perspectives on nature and reconstructs them into textiles. In particular, trees are an essential motif of nature. They grow by sucking up water from the ground, their flowers produce nectar for insects and birds, their fruits nourish animals, and their fallen leaves enrich the soil. In other words, they are a pillar of the ecosystem that supports the cycle of life. On the other hand, trees have been used as materials for various human creative activities, including crafts and architecture. The Mind Landscape collection combines enlarged and satellite photos of trees and is developed from four motifs. These fused multilayered perspectives also resonate with the gaze of craftsmen who determine the intrinsic beauty of trees as materials. Furthermore, the collection depicts new mind landscapes by composing them into natural fiber textiles through the craftsmen’s creativity.

The exhibition showcases the new textiles, as well as objects and photographs that inspired the creative process, and introduces selected books on trees, nature, and the environment related to the collection. The Mind Landscape collection creates new natural beauty from the tree motif to reinterpret trees’ intricate appearances and roles through diverse perspectives and the richness of natural cycles.

HOSOO Co., Ltd.

Hosoo was founded in 1688 in Nishijin in Kyoto as a weaver purveying to prominent temples.
