Garden and Textile

Japanese gardens have historically been created alongside architecture, positioned between human intervention and nature. As an interface between humans and the natural environment, they share a deep connection with textiles. This project, in collaboration with the Garden Archive Project—an initiative developing new archives for Japanese gardens—and the architectural design studio ALTEMY, explores the garden at HOUSE of HOSOO in Kyoto’s Nishijin area. Through in-depth research, the project explores a new concept of “textiles as gardens.” The exhibition Garden and Textile—The Shades of Shadows opens in December 2024.
